If you have direct tv and you don’t take advantage of the indie movie channels, then you’re really missing out on some crazy stuff. Indie films are the creative vision unchained and without the genre of indie, things like Forty Shades of Blue couldn’t exist.
Let’s talk about Forty Shades of Blue. It’s difficult.
That’s about the best you can sum it up without diving deep into the tense and disgusting situation of the story. To elaborate further, it’s the story of an old man’s girlfriend (thirty years his junior) pursuing and developing a love affair with the estranged son of this man (her contemporary).
Normally, I would cite the film being difficult to watch as a shortcoming, but that’s really the point, isn’t it? It’s a screwed up situation that will damage more than just the dreams and ambitions of two lovers and watching it is, in many ways, tantamount to a train wreck.
In this way, director Ira Sachs has managed to take a pretty everyday (sadly) issue (cheating) and turn it into a visceral experience that few action-packed thrillers can even come close to. Make no mistake, Forty Shades of Blue isn’t a good movie so much as it is a real experience, and that’s something even the biggest, Hollywood blockbusters fail to deliver.
The movie Forty Shades of Blue, also known as just Forty Shades, was one breakout US star above the others: Rip Torn. Some of her previous movie roles were in films such as Marfa, Doroga, Prezident i ego vnuchka and Teoriya zapoya.
